Kick-ass Designer

Company Info:
Morgan Porter Design is a small graphic design firm located in Richmond, Virginia. We currently have two full-time designers on staff (you guessed it, they’re kick-ass!) and draw from a network of contractors on an as-needed basis. Lately however, we’ve experienced a real spike in business (yippee for us!) and our workload has reached the level that we can’t get it all done on our own. (Believe me, we’ve tried. Ask our families.) That’s where you come in!

Job Summary:
You’ll be putting your kick-ass skills to use in all mediums: print, web, large-format and mobile. But we hope you like web design (more importantly, we hope you’re really good at it!) because that’s the bulk of what you’ll be doing. We’ll let you knock yourself out with original designs, but we’ll also sometimes have you work your magic on other people’s designs. (Big egos need not apply!)

We know the same old, same old probably doesn’t interest you so we’ll tell you right now, you might get tired but you’ll never get bored. Our clients are diverse – from national political campaigns to local museums – and the stuff you’ll do for them will vary widely and rarely be dry.

This is a freelance/contract job to start, but if you’re good (and the work keeps pouring in), we hope we can make you part of the Morgan Porter Design team full time and forever. Because you’ll be working from your own space, we don’t mind if you’re not right here in Richmond. But we have to warn you, Richmonders get first dibs.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • No phone calls.
  • No recruiters.
  • You’ll need your own computer, Adobe Creative Suite (CS3 or higher) and a high-speed Internet connection.
  • Even though you can work from home, you must be available during normal business hours (EST). If you already have a thriving freelance career and don't have time for a lot of extra work, keep doing what you’re doing!

Qualifications (must-haves):

  • Kick-ass portfolio.
  • Creative thinking.
  • Understanding of current web standards.
  • Available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 pm. EST (and often outside those hours).
  • Experience with the full range of Adobe CS design products (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).

Qualifications (bonus points):

  • Ability to hand-code HTML & CSS using current web standards.
  • Graphic design degree.

SEO & SEM Expert

Job Summary:
You will work directly with web designers to assure our websites have the best shot at appearing at the top of the search results on Google and other heavily used websites. You will also help plan and create online ad campaigns when appropriate.

This is a freelance/contract job to start, but if you’re work provides measurable results (and the work keeps pouring in), we hope we can make you part of the Morgan Porter Design team full time and forever. Because you’ll be working from your own space, we don’t mind if you’re not right here in Richmond. But we have to warn you, Richmonders get first dibs. (And you must be a legal U.S. resident)

  • If you already have a thriving SEO company and don't have time for a lot of extra work, keep doing what you’re doing!

Qualifications (must-haves):

  • Deep knowledge of SEM and SEO as well as a working knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies, especially in the area of local search
  • Knowledge with technical aspects of search engines
  • Ability to show measurable results in past SEO and SEM projects.
  • Experience with Google Analytics.
  • Experience using Google AdWords, Yahoo Marketing Solutions and MS AdCenter
  • Understanding of basic website design and development.
  • Available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 pm. EST (and often outside those hours).
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Gmail, Google Docs, and Basecamp.
  • Self-starter, with ability to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility as time permits.
  • Creativity.

Qualifications (bonus points):

  • Bachelors Degree or higher.
  • Ad agency experience.
